After attending one such Green Livelihoods workshop last year, a team of six participants from the village Pillari 2 decided to make soaps from natural reetha (soap-nut). Little did they know that their micro-enterprise will not only help them make ends meet but also provide a valuable service during a grave emergency. With the onset of COVID-19, hand washing became essential to control the spread of the virus. This provided an opportunity to the reetha soap team to begin marketing their product as soon as there was a little relaxation in the lockdown.

An exemplary case is Yasmeen Lari , the first Pakistani graduate in architecture (it was 1963) who in the last 12 years, after retiring, has become a sort of mentor who helps the population suffering from constant disasters - earthquakes and floods - in rebuild a life, starting from the roof of the house.

On 7th April 2020, 250 ration bags were distributed amongst the families in Makli amid the coronavirus pandemic. The initiative was a result of a collaboration between Heritage Foundation and Rotary Club Karachi New Central. The distribution took place at ZC3 with all the possible precautions taken.
