Reproductive Systems
The human reproductive system is an organ system that participates in human reproduction process. The health condition of reproductive system certainly influences the health of future children. Female and male reproductive system has a different structure; however, there are numerous problems, issues, and diseases that may threaten both.
Male reproductive system includes internal and external organs that play a huge role in fertilization of female's egg. Sexual organs of men are the following: glands, which are called testicles, and seminal ducts (Clemente, 1985). The male testicles develop in childs abdominal cavity, and subsequently descend into the scrotum which is an external skin bag. They contain spermatozoa. As for vas deferens, it is located next to the urethra within the penis. Furthermore, there are the cavernous bodies that participate in erection function during a sexual intercourse. Besides, male reproductive system is prone to such diseases as herpes, fungal diseases, prostate diseases, infections, and others.
Alternatively, the parts of female reproductive system are the internal and external genital organs which structure differs from the male one. The main female genitalia are the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, vagina, large and small labia, and clitoris (Clemente, 1985). The ovaries contain the ovules that appear in abdominal cavity through the fallopian tubes during maturation. The uterus or womb plays a vital role as well as it is the place where the fetus develops before parturition. The tissue in both clitoris and male penis is very sensitive. Moreover, these two sex organs vary in size during sexual arousal.
Female genitalia, however, also take part in such process as menstruation. This is one of the stages of the menstrual cycle that occurs in the female reproductive system. The process of menstruation is a rejection of the mucous membrane of the uterus and is accompanied by bleeding. Note that menstruation stops during pregnancy and lactation period. When a woman has a menstruation, she may experience the symptoms of PMS which one associates with a change in hormonal background that affects mood and general habitus.
Sexual violence, however, is considered to be one of the main social issues associated with sexuality. According to the statistics presented by RAINN, "there are 321,500 victims (age 12 or older) of rape and sexual assault each year in the United States" (Victims of Sexual Violence: Statistics, 2015). Thereby, many people are not aware due to poor sexual education that main aspects of behavior with a sexual partner are mutual respect, desire, and concern for each other. The main myth concerning sexual violence is about rape assault. Some people relate this sexual penetration to sex as it is, because women incite men to such sexual intercourse. They also state that there is no psychological trauma after that.
Lastly, such diseases as HIV and AIDS can affect both females and males through the sexual contact. International HIV and AIDS charity AVERT admits that, in 2015, an estimated 36.7 million people were living with HIV (including 1.8 million children) (GLOBAL HIV AND AIDS STATISTICS, 2017). This disease inhibits the work of human immunity, which causes the development of AIDS. Nevertheless, such contraception means as condoms can reduce the risk of this disease. Thus, it is extremely important to educate people about various HIV/AIDS prevention practices in schools and universities to reduce the number of precedents.
In conclusion, reproductive systems of men and women perform similar functions but they are arranged in differently. Despite the fact that almost every adult is aware of the structure of these bodies, some issues that concern sexuality still are urgent in modern society. Moreover, rape issues and ignorance of contraceptive methods affects our world although one may improve the situation with an efficient sexual education.
